The Department of Yvelines innovates by offering treatment at the museum

What is the museum prescription ? This is a device allowing a caregiver or social worker to prescribe a museum visitas part of the therapeutic or social monitoring of a person. Invented in Canada in 2018 by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the program is now being tested in several museums around the world, and it is arriving in , inTHE . In fact, the West Ile-de-France Department is the first French community to deploy this system across its territory.

On December 5, the departmental administration launched SolYmuséesa program combining culture and health. In this one, she therefore proposes the implementation of museum prescriptions using prescription checkbooks serving as free entries. Health professionals, associated with the program, have the choice among 18 cultural places in the region to which to direct their patients. Among them, we find the Villa Savoye in , the house Triolet-Aragon in Saint-Arnoult-en-Yvelines or the National Archeology Museum in Saint-Germain-en-Laye.

Beneficial effects have been observed on patients

“In the field of health, culture, without being curative, can strongly contribute to the quality of life of people in suffering”advance Josephine Kollmannsbergervice-president of the Department, delegate for Culture and Tourism. Since the start of the experiment“of the beneficial effects are observed in cases of pathologies linked to stress, personality disorders and in patients suffering from physical or moral pain”we advance to the Departmental Council of Yvelines.

Today, a wide range of healthcare workers (nurse, doctor, psychologist) and some social supports deliver museum prescriptions. The system is open to any public service health or social professional wishing to join (by email: [email protected]). “The SolYmusées program reflects two objectives of our departmental policy: on the one hand, making culture as accessible as possible to all […]and, on the other hand, make culture a factor of well-being“, wishes Joséphine Kollmannsberger.
