The appellation promises to be ambitious in a turbulent context, ready to face difficulties, with a positive and conquering attitude and state of mind, as announced by its president Jean-Benoit Cavalier.
It extends from Collioure to Nîmes, has 10,000 hectares of vines, produces 250,000 hectoliters, in 3 colors, with a base appellation, the AOP Languedoc, and 38 AOCs and denominations of Languedoc-Roussillon. 40 years have passed since the recognition in 1985 of the AOC Coteaux-du-Languedoc, until today, and will be celebrated throughout 2025.

Three works will retrace the saga of wines in Languedoc from Antiquity to the 21st century. The first, “The feeling of Languedoc”, is signed Marc Médevielle. It recounts three strategic centuries: 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, which forged this “feeling” of Languedoc. His portraits of winegrowers, agronomists, naturalists, scientists and philosophers shed light on the unique identity of the AOP Languedoc, illustrated with iconographic finds in regional archives and libraries. This book, published by Atelier Baie, regional publisher, will be completed, for a trilogy at the end of 2025, by “Languedoc in Antiquity” by Stéphane Mauné, archaeologist and researcher at the CNRS, and “From 1985 to today”, by journalist Florence Guilhem.
Take the time… to celebrate
To celebrate its 40th anniversary, the AOP Languedoc will blow out its candles throughout the year, by offering events aimed at professionals and the general public, in Languedoc and Paris:
- a large banquet on January 27 (first evening of the Millésime bio show) at the Maison des vins du Languedoc in Lattes, showcasing local flavors and vintages from the AOP Languedoc, with the winegrowers of the AOP and its denominations, in the spirit of “unexpected pairings” dinners.
- a Languedoc spring in Paris, from April 27 to May 4, offering professionals an immersive tasting, “Art and vibration” at the Atelier des Lumières in the 11th arrondissement, and professional meetings on April 28 at the Cercle d’Aumale in the 9th arrondissement.
- “new formula” summer events, more committed, eco-responsible and family-friendly, every Tuesday in July and August.
The appellation has shown itself capable of questioning and renewal, it will be able to face changes in consumption as well as climatic upheavals, with resilience and collective spirit, underlines its president: “AOP Languedoc, living wine, vibrant wine! »
