Artist Fernando Costa creates a work for the Cahors hospital

Friday June 28, 2024, the sculpture of theartist Fernando Costa installed in the hall of thehospital of Cahors. Entitled “ Gratitudes “, this work was created for the attention of organ and tissue donorstheir families and loved ones.

A work created from medical equipment

As with all his works, the sculptor-welder artist imagined a heart made from metal medical equipment (beds, medical devices, etc.) that he collected at the Cahors hospital. All services were called upon to recover obsolete equipment destined for scrapping. “The heart is gift, love, life. I wanted to install it on a red wall. The tubes represent veins and arteries. It’s great to give someone back their life,” explains Fernando Costa, who draws a parallel between his work, recognizable by the recycling of signage and scrap metal objects into works of art, and the gift of organs. “I have been in recycling for 30 years. I told my family: “Take everything, you can recycle everything!” » ». The artist is also delighted to bring art to a hospital environment, and “thus bring a smile back to those who suffer”.

The creation of this place of memory for organ and tissue donors within the healthcare establishment allows Pierre Nogrette, director of the Cahors hospitalto recall that the establishment “has been carrying out organ and tissue removals for years.” Thierry Debreux, president of the medical establishment committee (CME)specifies that out of 5 censuses carried out in 2024, three were successful for a total of 9 donations.

The artist created this work for free. The cost of its construction and installation was covered by theAssociation Guardians of the Angel ».
