Why get vaccinated in the fall?

“The vaccine thus allows a reduction in mortality among vulnerable people who have contracted the flu. However, these people do not develop as many antibodies as someone who is healthy. This is why we also recommend that caregivers and loved ones around these vulnerable people be vaccinated. The advantage is that they do not transmit it to more vulnerable people. It is then an altruistic vaccination because the disease is not fatal for a healthy person. »

In addition, when we contract the flu, and any other virus, we are often already contagious 24 to 48 hours before symptoms appear. A caregiver can therefore come to work in good faith, without knowing that they have the flu, and infect their patients. Getting vaccinated also effectively limits this type of risk.

In practice, how to get vaccinated?

The Saint-Luc Bouge Clinic will offer free flu and Covid vaccination sessions to all members of its staff, whether medical, paramedical, administrative, etc.

If you are patient, there are several possibilities:

1. The vaccine can be done at your doctor’s office.

2. It can be done in pharmacies, without a prescription and will be reimbursed for people at risk. The “high dose” vaccine (see box) can also be prescribed by a pharmacist, but reimbursement is only possible upon request from a prescribing doctor.

3. It can be offered and administered at the Saint-Luc Bouge Clinic during an infectious diseases consultation.

The effectiveness of the flu vaccine is not 100%, but it reduces the risk of contracting this infection and developing less serious symptoms.
