While Operation Pink October has just ended, the Senate has just adopted, on October 30, 2024, a bill aimed at improving the management of care and specific measures for breast cancer.

Submitted to the National Assembly by the Communist Party deputy, Fabien Roussel, it initially aimed to cover all care related to breast cancer.

Philippe Mouiller, senator from Deux-Sèvres and chairman of the social affairs committee, took up this bill in order to find a compromise, with the aim of better management of care and specific measures for cancer of the breast, while ensuring that the constitutional principle of equality is respected.

Costs specific to breast cancer covered

Through its work, the Senate wished to refocus the system put in place so that costs deemed specific to breast cancer are covered, in particular those following a mastectomy or lumpectomy.

Costs related to medical tattooing of the areola and nipple, renewal of breast prostheses as well as the purchase of suitable underwear will be affected.

So-called supportive care will also see its support reinforced by Social Security thanks to the extension to patients in active treatment of the flat rate of €180, currently reserved for insured persons in post-treatment.
