The circulation of the dengue virus is above seasonal indicators in Martinique and Guadeloupe. The two islands are currently in epidemic phasenoted Public Health France Antillesin its bulletin this Thursday (October 31).
Martinique, homes with evolving potential
In Martiniqueall indicators have been progressing for several weeks with values for community medicine data exceeding seasonal thresholds.
The island is at phase 2 level 2 of the Dengue Epidemic Surveillance, Alert and Management Program (PSAGE): “focus(es) with evolving potential or multiple outbreaks with epidemiological link(s) between them”.
In city medicine according to the Sentinel Physician Network, between 90 and 160 cases clinically suggestive of dengue have been estimated per week since the beginning of October, compared to 125 weekly cases on average in September.
A reduction in home visits (SOS-doctors) for dengue has been observed for four weeks going from 37 visits on average to 16 visits over the same period, but these data should be interpreted with caution due to the impact of social movements on travel.
In hospital, only nine visits for suspected dengue fever were recorded on average in October, compared to 13 on average in September.
540 cases per week on average in Guadeloupe
The current dengue situation corresponds to very active circulation of the virus. The archipelago is in phase 3 of the PSAGE : “Epidemic risk, clinically suggestive cases crossing the maximum expected level”.
Au month of Octoberthe number of cases clinically suggestive of dengue fever is increasing in community medicine, with nearly 540 cases estimated per week in the last four weeks compared to 220 cases on average estimated for the previous four weeks of september. The seasonal threshold, estimated at 80 weekly cases, of clinical cases has been exceeded.
Dengue activity athospital has also been increasing since the beginning of October, with on average, 40 passages per weeks in the emergency room for suspected dengue fever compared to 25 in September.
