The risk of allergy will increase to the “high” level in the other departments in the coming days, announces the national aerobiological surveillance network.

If the sunny weather and high temperatures allow us to return to seasonal norms, they are also synonymous with the return of grass pollen, feared by many allergy sufferers. According to the national aerobiological surveillance network (RNSA), the level of allergy risk has increased “at a high level in many departments” since May 7. All departments in the southwest and southeast are thus affected. The rest of the country is also classified with medium risk, although all these departments will be “quickly (readjusted) to the high level in the days to come”.

The reason behind this phenomenon would be due to the precipitation at the beginning of May. They “brought a little respite to allergy sufferers, but also promoted the growth and development of grasses”, affirms the RNSA. The heat of the last few days has increased the risk of allergies.

A small third of the 20 million people suffering from allergies in France – mild or more serious forms – are affected by pollen, according to the president of the French Federation of Allergology, Frédéric de Blay.

The World Health Organization (WHO) predicts that half of the world’s population will suffer from allergies by 2050, in particular because of global warming and pollution.
