Josette, a resident of Sainte-Suzanne, has been in remission since 2022. She discovered her illness through self-examination. She talks about her journey.

Josette was 46 years old when she noticed lumps in her chest. The result came in February 2015: she had breast cancer. For her and those close to her, it’s a shock: “II was speechless, when I announced this to everyone, they were in tears. For them, cancer meant death. And everyone thought I was going to die and I told them no I’m not going to die but that didn’t stop the sadness.”

Mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, 7 years of care to stop the disease. “I had my nails completely black, I no longer had any eyebrows or hair, I was afraid for my teeth. I no longer had breasts, I remained without breasts for 1-2 years. I didn’t feel at all feminine.”

In 2022, she finishes radiotherapy and enters the remission phase. Since then she has come back to life and wants to send a message to women: “we must share, it is only by sharing the illness that we can overcome the illness. I will say that for those who have not yet passed this stage and for those who are in it, I wish them a lot of courage. And I tell them to fight, you have to fight, you have to keep hope, it’s not the end of life. On the contrary, it will perhaps be a new life that will be offered to you.”

Member of the association, “simply live better”, Josette helps people with cancer.
