After the transition from December 5, 2023 to “high” risk across the entire metropolitan area for avian flu, no new cases of the virus was not detected in the birds of migratory wildlife.
2021-2022: the largest epidemic on record
Only 10 outbreaks were affected by the virus in farmed birds compared to 402 last year.
No new outbreaks of avian flu have been detected since January 16.
This is explained “by the success of the massively implemented vaccination strategy”, assures the Ministry of Agriculture in a press release.
The year 2021/2022 was a catastrophic year for avian flu, with more than 5,300 detections in poultry, farmed and wild birds.
Since the measures taken in December, there have been almost no cases observed.
The Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty therefore reduced the risk to “negligible” level on May 3, 2024.
This decision is the logical continuation of the lowering from “high” to “moderate” in mid-March.
Changes
Poultry breeders no longer have an obligation to shelter birds. Poultry gatherings are once again authorized.
All hunting restrictions are lifted. Finally, the security measures put in place in risk areas after the move to the “moderate” level in March 2024 are also lifted.
Despite this, vigilance is required, because the virus is not dead.
It is currently spreading in cow herds and could affect humans. A case has already been recorded in the United States at the beginning of April.
