The Archaeological Research Center (CRAA), rue de l’Abbé Pierre in Aiguillon, is offering an exhibition until October 25 on the history of Aiguillon from the 11th to the 18th century. Free guided tours are organized by appointment.

Numerous excavations have taken place over decades in the commune of Aiguillon, first by the team of Doctor Reginato then, since 2001, by approved operators on sites such as Lagravisse, Chastel, Grand Jean, Lalanne, Peyrelongue , Barbot…). More recently, archaeological excavations and surveys were carried out before the development of the three squares (Espiau, Clémenceau and 14July) and in the adjacent streets. The CRAA and the town hall of Aiguillon were keen to present to the inhabitants of Aiguillon, and beyond Lot-et-Garonne, the results obtained by the archaeologists and historians in charge of these studies prior to the development work on the squares of the town center. Archaeologists have unearthed remains presented in this exhibition.

After an introduction to excavation methods, those of historical research, etc.), a quick reminder of the history of Aiguillon, from the origins until the 11th century will be offered: (birth of the town and that of the castles, the castrum of Fossat, the castrum of Lunac, the creation of the bastide of Aiguillon, and finally the construction of the castle of the Dukes of Aiguillon).

The daily life of the inhabitants will be addressed by presenting medieval and modern housing (with several models), food, crafts, etc. A part will be devoted to religion and burials, epidemics, wars, and their consequences. on local populations. The exhibition is produced by the Aiguillon Archaeological Research Center in partnership with the DRAC , the SCOP Hadès, the company EVEHA and INRAP, approved archaeological operators active in Aiguillon and Aquitaine, and with all the technical support from the Aiguillon town hall services and the Heritage department of the Lot-et-Garonne department. Exhibition curator: Gérald Migeon, Chief Heritage Curator, honorary, secretary of the CRAA, with the valuable assistance of Didier Fromenteaux, Hervé Wehrung and Alain Barbeyron. The exhibition will be guided by Gulla Gonella, archeology student and Johanna Fromentaux, communications student.
