Injured knee and still recovering Tony Finau has withdrawn from the Grant Thornton Invitational and will not team up like last year with world number 1 Nelly Korda.
No “FiNelly” team this year in Naples, Florida at the Tiburón Golf Club in the competition pairing a PGA Tour player with an LPGA player.
Indeed the player from Utah Tony Controversy who withdrew from last week's Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas is still on the sidelines. It will therefore be replaced by Daniel Berger and will play with Nelly Korda.
The PGA TOUR communications department released the following statement on behalf of Tony Finau:
“I am disappointed to have to withdraw from the Grant Thornton Invitational and continue to recover from my knee injury. Playing with Nelly in 2023 was one of the highlights of my year. I look forward to supporting her this week and am humbled by her support and understanding as I try to get back on my feet. I also think of my partner Grant Thornton for bringing a touch of originality to our game, bringing together the PGA TOUR and the LPGA in Naples. I can’t wait to return to competition next year!”
Tony Finau and Nelly Korda finished 4th last year at the first Grant Thornton Invitational. At the last Fall Series tournament, the RSM Classic, Daniel Berger finished second, his best result of 2024.
