Flamboyant during the first round, Julien Guerrier struggled more this Friday at the Real Club de Sotogrande. The Frenchman gave up the lead to the Spaniard Jorge Campillo. Romain Langasque and Victor Perez are in contact with the first places.

Golf is definitely an eternal beginning again. In total control the day before during his immaculate 62 (18 greens in regulation), Julien Guerrier had a much more typical day for professional players, with a few outbursts and mishaps (he made his first bogey on hole no. 1, the first after 64 holes in a row without fault). With a colder putter too, the native of Évreux stood still with his 72, ten strokes less than the day before.

But thanks in particular to an eagle at hole n°14, he remains in contact with the lead and the best Frenchman after two rounds in this Andalusia Masters. Provisional third, he is however five strokes behind another experienced player, Jorge Campillo38 years old, hunting for a fourth success on the DP World Tour.

The Caceres player is now at 36 holes without an error at San Roque. His 65 of the day, marked by an eagle on the short par 4 of 11 (chip from 30 meters in the box), is just as remarkable as his 64 of the day before. He is pursued at a respectable distance (four shots) by the Englishman Daniel Brown.

Rahm on the gas pedal

But these two will have to look in their rearview mirror this weekend, and particularly towards the one who appears as the bogeyman, the ultra favorite of the tournament, Jon Rahm. Uninspired on the greens on Thursday, he sounded the charge this Friday. From flag planting to putting strings, “Rahmbo” was having a great day.

The Basque scored a superb 66 (-6) despite a frustrating three-putt on his last hole which allowed him to make a good comeback on the leaderboard and appear in the top 10. He will obviously have to be reckoned with in the hunt for the trophy.

Also among the favorites, the brothers Højgaard experienced varying fortunes. Rasmus grabs the top 20, Nicolai saved his place in the tournament at the last minute with a birdie on the 18th.

Langasque in the game, many Blues out

Romain Langasquehe is solid in the position in the top 10 and can hope to score valuable points in his race for the PGA Tour. Victor Perez will have to pull out all the stops if he wants to qualify for theAbu Dhabi HSBC Championship. A minimum second place is required for Tarbais. He is six shots behind on this goal.

Tom Vaillant will also be present this weekend, as will Antoine Rozner who snatched his qualification with an eagle at 14 and a birdie at 16.

But the cut line set at -2 was fatal to more than half of the French contingent. Exit Frédéric Lacroix, Adrien Saddier, Clement Sordet, David Ravetto, Jeong Weon Ko et Ugo Coussaudwho however does not leave the tournament empty-handed after his hole in one.
