Called to a press conference ahead of the BMW PGA Championship, the 3rd Rolex Series of the season on the DP World Tour, Justin Rose stressed the importance of the presence of the best players at the next Ryder Cup in 2025. In particular Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton, transferred to LIV and likely to be missing from the European team if their “contractual situation” does not change by then.

At 44 years old, Justin Rose remains one of the key elements of the next team of Ryder Cup who will defend the trophy in September 2025 at Bethpage (New York). Already decisive in the victory of the Europeans a year ago in Rome, the Englishman, present at the BMW PGA Championship (September 19-23), was questioned at a press conference on the presence (or not) of Jon Rahm And Tyrrell Hatton in the team that will challenge the Americans on their soil…

The two players, transferred for millions of dollars on the LIV Golf this year, are currently engaged in a “standoff” with the DP World Tour authorities. Still wanting to be eligible for the next USA-Europe confrontation in a year, they have recently appealed the sanctions imposed on them, leaving doubts still hanging over their future in this same Ryder Cup.

It is a possibility that next year’s Ryder Cup team will not be able to count on them.Justin Rose said. But there’s a pretty simple path for them to be part of the team. So I don’t think it’s up to them to make their own decisions, but I think if they choose to cooperate or accept the structure that’s in place, they’re absolutely part of the team. That’s how I see it. »

I would be surprised if they didn’t understand that. But clearly there is a scenario today where it is conceivable that they would choose not to be part of the team.

What if they choose not to do everything it takes to make the team? To this question, the winner of theUS Open 2013 did not shirk…

I would be surprised if they didn’t understand it, adds Justin Rose. But there’s definitely a scenario now where it’s conceivable that they choose not to be part of the team. It would certainly be to the detriment of Europe. They’re great players. And obviously, they’ve also bonded. They were great together in Rome. They’re a duo. That type of connection is powerful. It’s pretty hard to recreate that. Obviously, we’re hoping to find some natural duos next year or that show up in Bethpage and emerge. But if you have partnerships that work, that’s also a really, really important and powerful part of the team. I hope they’re there! »
