“I made my choice”, Jérémy Le Douaron does not regret his departure from Stade Brestois despite the Champions League

Having arrived in Palermo (Italy) at the end of the transfer window, Breton Jérémy Le Douaron will discover his first foreign championship, Serie B. “I got Palermo very early in the transfer window, at the beginning of July. It was an opportunity for me to come here after four years in Brest. I wanted to see something different. It’s a source of pride to wear the Palermo FC jersey. It’s the first time I’ve left my Brittany. It’s all new for my girlfriend and me. We’re going to adapt and enjoy it too. It’s a chance,” he said several times during his presentation press conference.

Many French speakers in Palermo

The 26-year-old Costa Rican striker, already in the squad for the match against Cosenza on Sunday, is joining several French or French-speaking players: Italy regulars Alexis Blin, Salim Diakité, Alfred Gomis and Thomas Henry, the young Stredair Appuah, and the former hopeful Claudio Gomes. “It’s easier to have players who speak French. I knew Alexis (Blin) a little. He helped me with a lot of things. For the translation, it’s practical,” described Jérémy Le Douaron.

“I am proud of what I have accomplished, from N2 to Ligue 1”

The Costarmorican knows that he will have to “adapt quickly” to the language but also to the climate: “It’s very hot here, me, the Breton, I will have to get used to it quickly because I haven’t trained much in these conditions”, he confided to the Télégramme after his presentation.

He gives a “very good assessment” of his time at Stade Brestois, “even if we can always do better. I am proud of the journey I have made, of what I have accomplished, from National 2 to Ligue 1, I managed to establish myself quickly. I will always be grateful to the club that introduced me to the top level. It was a dream.” At the time of his departure, the striker had, of course, a thought for the Francis-Le Blé fans: “They are exceptional. I am a player who has never cheated, I have always given everything for the jersey, it is in my nature. I think the supporters love that and I will never thank them enough for the support they have given me during these four years!”

“I will follow Brest”

Jérémy Le Douaron will not experience the excitement of a Champions League match in the Brest jersey. “I don’t regret anything, I made my choice,” he assured Le Télégramme. “I know it’s the most prestigious competition, the one that every footballer dreams of playing in, but I seized the opportunity in Palermo. I think it’s the best for the rest of my career.” He assures that he will “follow Brest, watch all the matches,” without forgetting his “chance to play here (in Palermo), a big club in Italy, which doesn’t belong in Serie B.”

During his presentation conference, he said he was “physically ready”, with the desire “to score even more than in Brest”. Jérémy Le Douaron could already make his debut against Juve Stabia on September 14.
