Heritage Lottery: two buildings selected in Poitou for the 2024 edition

For this 2024 edition of the Heritage Lotterytwo monuments from Vienne and Deux-Sèvres are among the 118 selected throughout France and will therefore receive part of the sums collected through games and draws. These are the Ligugé spinning mill in Vienne and the outbuildings of the Forêt-sur-Sèvre castle in Deux-Sèvres. Enabling them to renovate and save these monuments of our local heritage.

The Ligugé spinning mill, a rare example of industrial heritage

Abandoned for 30 years, the Ligugé spinning mill is part of Poitevin’s industrial heritage. In 2011, four owners bought the ruined site to avoid its demolition. A business incubator is located there, but the majority of the buildings (there are 26) are in a state of imminent danger. Some are in danger of falling down, others contain asbestos. The funds raised through the lottery will allow part of the work to be carried out.

“Save” the communes of the Château de la Forêt-sur-Sèvre

In Deux-Sèvres, the castle’s outbuildings, such as a 50-metre-long farmhouse on the water, need an investment of 300,000 euros to be saved. So naturally, its co-owner Nathanaël de Fombelle is delighted: “The lottery will allow us to maintain our energy and our mobilization to save the building, to go knocking on other doors and for us to roll up our sleeves and start saving the site.” He hopes that many people from Poitiers will play to raise as much money as possible.
