Turkish club Adanaspor announces the death of former PSG player Sol Bamba at just 39 years old

Trained at PSG and former player of British clubs like Leicester, Leeds, Cardiff or Middlesbrough, Sol Bamba died at only 39 years old, announced Adanaspor this Saturday. He had recently joined the management of the Turkish club.

A shockwave, especially in the Turkish and English media. This Saturday, August 31, the Turkish club Adanaspor announced the death of its technical director Sol Bamba, aged 39. The circumstances of his death remain unclear but in a short statement, Adanaspor stated that the former player had been hospitalized urgently after falling ill just before the match against Manisa (0-0) on Friday.

A former Ivorian international (51 caps with the Elephants), the ex-defender was trained at PSG, he being a native of Ivry-sur-Seine. But his playing career was mainly spent across the Channel, first in Scotland and then in England (Leicester, Leeds) or in Wales (Cardiff City).

Affected by cancer in 2021

On social media, his former club Leeds paid tribute to him: “Everyone at Leeds is devastated to hear of the passing of former club captain Sol Bamba. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends at this tragic time. Rest in peace Sol, you will be forever in our hearts.”

At the beginning of 2021, he spoke about his battle against a form of cancer affecting his lymphatic system before announcing that he was in remission in May 2021. He was also able to return to the field at the same time.
