here is why surrounding your meter with aluminum foil is useless and even dangerous

The Linky meter, deployed in more than 35 million French homes, emits electromagnetic waves against which some users try to protect themselves using aluminum. But is it really useful?

To protect themselves from electromagnetic waves, many users have tried aluminum. From a health point of view, exposure to waves is a matter of concern. Just like other electronic devices, the Linky meter, which is part of the lives of more than 35 million French households, emits electromagnetic radiation.

To protect themselves, users cover their electricity meters with aluminum to create a Faraday cage, named after the British scientist Michael Faraday.

A dangerous practice

However, this method is not just a simple piece of aluminum foil affixed to the meter. The Faraday cage works by superimposing conductive and non-conductive layers. In addition, surrounding your Linky meter with aluminum – a thermal insulator – would be dangerous, because the device could overheat if covered for too long.

In response to concerns, Enedis explains that the Linky meter emits as many electromagnetic waves as old electricity meters, while recalling the numerous benefits derived from its deployment on a national scale, Linky almost no longer requiring the physical intervention of a technician.
