“Raising the level, raising the level, raising the level”, the “three priorities” of Minister Anne Genetet

Guest of RTL this Friday for her first interview since her appointment, the Minister of National Education said she wanted to collaborate with Bruno Retailleau at the Interior to better secure schools and prevent attacks on secularism.

In the same way that Bruno Retailleau, Minister of the Interior, had hammered home his intention to “restore order”Anne Genetet, at National Education, hammered home this Friday her three priorities which are only one: “Raising the level, raising the level, raising the level”. Guest of RTL for her very first speech since her appointment, the minister declared that she will maintain the continuity of «shock of knowledge » launched by his predecessor Gabriel Attal, with “level groups” for the students.

The minister also announced a plan on Monday to commemorate October 7, the details of which have yet to be specified. “I will be very firm on anti-Semitism”she declared, linking this fight to that against secularism. “Samuel Paty, Dominique Bernard, this is unacceptable; We can’t let anything go.”insisted Anne Genetet. To prevent attacks on secularism, the minister invites teachers to “speak, speak, speak”, announcing “zero tolerance” towards any perpetrator of threats. “We cannot attack a teacher, our students or our schools”she said.

As the anniversaries of the assassination of these two teachers approach, respectively October 16, 2020 and October 13, 2023, the minister also expressed her desire to secure educational establishments. “We had 150 secure establishments a few months ago, we are at more than 400 today,” she indicated, wishing to continue on this path to better guarantee security “teachers and students”. Since the attack, “cameras, anti-intrusion gates, alarms” were installed in hundreds of establishments, said the minister.

Anne Genet also called for work “collectively” with the Ministry of the Interior and local authorities “to ensure that the path to school is safer”especially with more personnel deployed. “The more staff there are, the safer the way to school”she said. “I want the path to school to be safe, for all students, every day”.
