Four hundred and forty years after Montaigne, in 2020, the philosopher Gaspard Kœnig crosses on horseback, to Rome following the paths of freedom. After Montaigne, it was Voltaire that Gaspard Kœnig followed to the letter by “cultivating his garden”. After 10 years of involvement in public debate, he settled down in an isolated cottage in the middle of the countryside, abandoned most of his professional activities, made his own compost, halved his meat consumption and stopped eating. take the plane. He believes that nature and freedom are deeply linked.
It is inspired in particular by the ecological thinking of the anarchist activist Elisée Reclus from the end of the 19th century and also by that of John Stuart Mill, one of the first to think about the notion of degrowth. In his book Gaspard Kœnig recommends several avenues for reconciling human progress and ecosystems, such as “non-growing capitalism” or even “libertarian municipalism”.
