Antoine Griezmann announces the end of his career with the French football team

One of the great figures in the history of the team bows out. At 33, Antoine Griezmann announced, to everyone’s surprise, Monday September 30, his international retirement. Third most capped player in the history of the Blues – 137 caps, tied with Olivier Giroud –, 2018 world champion, “Grizou” published a video on his international routine within Didier Deschamps’ team in September.

“Today, it is with deep emotion that I announce my retirement as a player for the France team. After ten incredible years marked by challenges, successes and unforgettable moments. It’s time for me to turn a page and make way for the new generation”explains Griezmann in this video.

The vice-captain of the Blues, who made his debut for the French team in March 2014 during a friendly match against the Netherlands (2-0), will therefore have played his last selection against Belgium on September 9. He should logically be part of France’s next list, which Deschamps will announce on Thursday October 3, for the Blues’ next two matches. But the coach will now have to do without the man he has never hidden considering as his “favorite”.
