The ceremony in Nice will be presided over by Gérald Darmanin, the resigning Minister of the Interior. A wish expressed by the widow of the warrant officer, Harmonie Comyn, who, on Wednesday 28 August, during a ceremony in Mandelieu-la-Napoule, where the motorized platoon to which her husband belonged was based, accused “France” of having “killed [son] husband by his inadequacy, his laxity and his excess of tolerance”.

The driver indicted

As a reminder, the tragedy occurred around 8:40 p.m. on Monday, August 26, when a driver in a black BMW refused to be stopped, according to the gendarmerie. The vehicle violently hit Éric Comyn while he and his colleagues were carrying out a routine traffic check at an exit ramp of the A8 motorway.ALSO READ Road safety: speed bumps ordered to keep a low profile

The driver, who was heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident, was charged with “murder of a public official” and placed in pre-trial detention. He already had 10 convictions on his record and had been arrested twice for driving while intoxicated and/or under the influence of drugs.
