SURVEY – Although the former prime minister remains a popular figure, the timing of his declaration of candidacy was not understood by 60% of French people, according to an Odoxa-Backbone poll for The Figaro.

In the midst of a political crisis, the statement could almost have gone unnoticed, so much attention was focused on the interminable saga at Matignon. By announcing his candidacy for the next presidential election on Tuesday evening, in an interview with Point Édouard Philippe surprised even his own camp. Above all, the opposition very quickly denounced the curious timing chosen by the former prime minister, while the country was beginning its 50the day without a fully functioning government.

An opinion shared by a majority of French people, as revealed by an Odoxa-Backbone survey for The Figaro. For 60% of them, the mayor of Le Havre (Seine-Maritime) did not choose the right moment to come out of the woodwork. An opinion shared by more than half (55%) of Renaissance supporters.
