PORTLAND, Ore. — A man died after a shooting early Wednesday morning in downtown Portland, according to police.

Police officers responded to a reported shooting just after 3:30 a.m. in the area of Southwest 3rd Avenue and Southwest Ankeny Street. When officers arrived, they learned that a man was taken in a private vehicle to a hospital where he died. The suspect, or suspects, left the area and no one has been arrested, Portland police said.

Police have not identified the man who died. They said there is no danger to the public, and they expect to remain at the scene for several more hours. The investigation appears to be centered on a parking lot between Southwest 3rd Avenue and Southwest 4th Avenue, off Southwest Ankeny Street.

A witness working in the area told KGW he saw a group of people standing in the parking lot and heard some people arguing before several shots were fired.

As of 6:30 a.m., Southwest 3rd Avenue and a portion of Southwest Ankeny Street is closed, while West Burnside Street appears to remain open.

Portland police responded to at least one other shooting early Wednesday morning. It happened just after 1 a.m. at Southeast 197th Avenue and Southeast Stark Street. Portland police said there was a “struggle” between two people who knew each other, and one of them was shot. That person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The suspect ran away from the area.
