For several months, rumors about the PS5 Pro have been setting the web ablaze. This new console, a true intergenerational renewal of the PS5, is generating unprecedented excitement. While many expected an official presentation in November, it seems that Sony has decided to speed up the schedule. Indeed, reliable sources indicate that the long-awaited announcement could take place in the coming days.

Leak Reveals PS5 Pro Design

A few days ago, a French site set the cat among the pigeons by claiming to have obtained a photo of the PS5 Pro box. According to this leak, the design of the console would be similar to that of the current PS5, but with some notable adjustments. The absence of a built-in disc drive, which would be sold separately, is one of the most striking changes. In addition, the PS5 Pro sports additional lines in the middle of the console and a slightly wider top, designed to accommodate a more efficient cooling system.

Graphics Performance: A Leap Forward

Speculation about the PS5 Pro’s performance has been largely fueled by Kepler, a well-known leaker on X (formerly Twitter) known for his reliable information. According to him, the PS5 Pro’s graphics would be equivalent to an AMD RX 7700 XT card in terms of rasterization, with slightly better performance in ray tracing. This new console would have 12 GB of video memory, thus offering performance comparable to that of the RTX 3070 Ti, a high-end graphics card from NVIDIA, capable of running games in 4K resolution with remarkable fluidity.

A Promise Kept Four Years Later

Since the launch of the PS5 in 2020, Sony had promised a 4K gaming experience at a minimum of 60 FPS. However, this promise was never fully honored by the first generation of the console. With the PS5 Pro, Sony finally seems ready to keep its word. The additional power of this new version could well make it possible to achieve this famous objective, four years after the release of the PS5. The launch price, which is expected to be around 700 euros, reflects this move upmarket.

A Badly Kept Secret

The development of the PS5 Pro is probably one of Sony’s worst-kept secrets. The increasingly frequent leaks seem to indicate that the company still has a long way to go to secure its future projects, such as the PS6. While this unofficial information allows consumers to better assess the value of the console before its launch, it also tarnishes the element of surprise that Sony seeks to create around its products.
