If you like multiplayer games, you couldn’t have missed the release of Concord. A new license published by Sony and exclusive to the PS5 and PC, the game unfortunately flopped monumentally. Just a few days after its release, its servers officially closed.

An intergalactic flop for this Sony exclusive

Few people were expecting it, but Sony hoped that it could create a surprise a bit like Helldivers II, Concord was released on PlayStation 5 and PC on August 23rd. As a reminder, this video game hoped to compete with giants like Overwatch or Valorant thanks to a galactic hero-shooter that focused on both its strategic gameplay and its lore that would continue to develop over the weeks. However, despite its many qualities (we gave it a 16/20 in our columns), The game was not as successful as its developers had hoped, far from it.

From the first days after its release, something didn’t smell very good for Concord. Even though it certainly had more players on PS5 than on PC, the Steam statistics were indeed alarming since they revealed that the peak of simultaneous players had never exceeded 700 peoplea real disaster for a multiplayer game. A week later, new data appeared, and with it the final blow. According to IGN, Concord reportedly only sold 10,000 copies on Steam, and 15,000 copies on PlayStation 5. There’s no doubt about it: Concord was a flop like we rarely see.

Concord Officially Shuts Down Servers, Refunds Players

But while many critics were highlighting its qualities and some players were perhaps hoping to discover it one day (surely on condition that it is integrated into PlayStation Plus or made free to play), Sony has just published a communiqué much more radical. It’s official: Concord will shut down its servers on September 6th.

Dear Concord fans, we have listened to your feedback since the release of Concord on PlayStation 5 and PC and we want to thank everyone who has joined the adventure aboard the Northstar. Your support and the community passion that has emerged around the game means a lot to us.

However, while many of the qualities of this experience resonated with players, we also recognize that other aspects of the game and our initial launch did not have the desired impact. Therefore, for the time being, we have decided to shut down the servers as of September 6, 2024 and explore other options, including those that are likely to be more successful in attracting players.

While we determine the best path forward, sales of Concord will immediately cease and we will begin offering full refunds to all players who purchased the game on PS5 or PC. If you purchased the PlayStation 5 version from PlayStation Store or PlayStation Direct, a refund will be sent to your original payment method.

Customers who purchased the game from other online stores will also be refunded. More information on Steam and Epic refunds can be found below:

Steam : Steam will refund players who purchased the game within the next few days. Steam will send a confirmation of the refund once it has been processed.

Epic Games Store : The Epic Games Store will be refunding players who purchased the game in the coming days and will contact each customer directly to confirm that the refund has been processed.

Other shops: For customers who purchased the game physically or from a store not affiliated with PlayStation directly, please refer to the refund policy of the store in question to obtain your refund.

Once refunded, players will no longer have access to the game.

We will keep you informed and we thank again all the Freegunners who joined us in the Concord galaxy.

PlayStation Store and PlayStation Direct refunds may take 30-60 days to appear on your statement. If your original payment method was unavailable, the game amount will be refunded to your PSN wallet.

You will have understood, Concord is closing its server doors in just a few days, even though it was released less than two weeks ago. If you purchased the game and are looking to get a refund, you will find the terms and conditions above. Note that Sony has not stated that this closure will be permanent, but rather temporary while a solution is found that will be more suitable for Concord. It remains to be seen how long this will take, and whether the solution found will be enough to revive interest in the game.
