CKW shares: Centralschweizerische Kraftwerke AG takes over a heat network | 02.09.24

The previous operator, A Energie AG, continues operations on behalf of Centralschweizerische Kraftwerke AG, or CKW for short.

The Uettligen heat network north of the city of Bern has existed since 2019. It has been steadily expanded since then, CKW AG announced on Monday. Because A Energie AG is pursuing a new corporate strategy and the heat network is to be expanded, it was looking for a buyer.

According to its website, the Uettligen heating network aims to connect up to 200 apartments to the network. The heat is generated primarily with a wood-fired boiler.

The previous owner of the Uettligen heat network will continue to operate and maintain the plant. According to the announcement, CKW concluded a contract with the previous wood supplier.

CKW says it already has experience with district heating networks. It is currently expanding the district heating network in Schüpfheim LU and is planning a lake water heating network in Meggen LU.

CKW says it supplies electricity to over 200,000 customers in central Switzerland. It is part of the Axpo Group.

The CKW share last closed on August 29th, 0.67 percent lower at CHF 372.50.
