Former socialist minister Ségolène Royal launched “proposals” for ministers on RTL this Sunday, September 1, while the composition of the new government is awaited.

A former minister who is full of ideas. The former Minister of the Environment under François Hollande, Ségolène Royal, said on RTL this Sunday, September 1st, that she had “thought” about the composition of the next government and suggested names, while Emmanuel Macron continues his consultations.

“Pairs” on certain files

For the former presidential candidate, “the question will be how a left-wing Prime Minister can make people from the right work.” Among these “right-wing people,” she imagines “for example, Xavier Bertrand (…), I think he has his place.”

“If we make a pair at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, we can clearly see Xavier Bertrand and then at the Budget, a socialist, like (PS deputy) Philippe Brun or (the leader of the socialist deputies) Boris Vallaud for example,” she says.

“I see (the PS mayor of Alfortville) Luc Carvounas at Relations with Parliament because it will be one of the major challenges to make the articulation between the executive powers work”, she then adds, while recalling that these are only “hypotheses” and specifying that she has not consulted the people she mentions.

Nunez to replace Darmanin

In addition to these duos, she says she is in favor of a minister keeping his position. “I think that in Justice, we should keep Éric Dupond-Moretti because he has been very involved and he is an element of stability and we should not shake up this area,” she believes.

For the Interior Ministry, “to the extent that Gérald Darmanin said he wanted to leave”, Ségolène Royal imagines his potential replacement: Laurent Nunez, Paris police prefect. For her, he “was remarkable throughout this period of the Olympic Games in particular, we saw the French reconnect with trust and fraternity”.

In addition, she says she “hopes” to see women appointed to certain ministries. She is thinking in particular of the president of the Occitanie Regional Council Carole Delga, the PS mayor of Nantes Johanna Rolland or the PS mayor of Vaulx-en-Velin Hélène Geoffroy, whom she suggests to be in charge of “Youth”.

Not stingy with suggestions, she also mentions other elected officials, such as PS deputies Guillaume Garot or Philippe Brun, whom she describes as “calm and quiet”, people “who do their job, who have experience”.

“Someone who will calm France” as Prime Minister

For the post of Prime Minister, Ségolène Royal did not give a name, but did not seem enthusiastic about the idea of seeing the former socialist Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve return to Matignon, whose “rigid thinking” she castigates.

Instead, she calls on Emmanuel Macron to choose as head of government “someone who will calm France and who will ensure that there is no more disorder.”

In this context, the one who no longer has any mandate does not fail to recall her “availability”.

“I think I have this ability and I have demonstrated it. You know, my political life is behind me, I have not created a political party, I am not a presidential candidate, but I felt a duty in the face of the situation of deadlock and worry of the French people,” she maintains. “I am available, even if it is for a while,” she repeats.
