Renault’s new 100% electric city car finally tested

Announced since 2021 and the presentation of its prototype, the new 100% electric city car from the diamond brand is arriving on the streets in the coming weeks.

L’Automobile Magazine offers us the test of a car awaited for several years and which will cause a sensation at the Motor Show which will open its doors in a few days in Paris, it is the new Renault R5 E-Tech Electric.

Stéphane Meunier, editor-in-chief of the monthly, who had the chance to try it, “a little exclusive before everyone else», first of all says that this new city car was designed on the basis of the Clio. The goal, he says, is to save time and money, while benefiting from a “very successful platform» and a “easy, pleasant, safe car, both neutral and agile ».

« The whole challenge for Renault was to succeed in electrifying this platform», Explains the journalist from L’AM. The latter affirms that one of the solutions found by the diamond brand to limit the impact due to the installation of the batteries is to work on the weight: “This Renault 5, 100% electric, is barely 150 kilos heavier than a 145 horsepower Clio E-Tech, which is quite spectacular. »

Regarding the engine, Stéphane Meunier was able to test the high-end flagship model: “We tried the Renault 5 in Techno version, with 150 horsepower and the 56kWh battery, which should allow you to travel a little over 400 kilometers. »

Concerning the conduct, he considers that it has “all the advantages of a Mini, without the disadvantages, because we have a much more flexible unit, more considerate in terms of suspension ».

On the budget side, this car “once the bonus is deducted, the price is 29,490 euros“. If this is not the price of the popular R5 that we have known and imagined, the editor-in-chief of L’Automobile Magazine announces that “this will be the role of the 40kWh version which will appear before summer ».
