Beetlejuice the cult horror comedy by Tim Burton, not only has a sequel released this Wednesday in French theaters: it has also entered the museum!

The Cinéma et miniature museum in Vieux-Lyon, which organizes a number of events related to current cinematographic events, has also dedicated its own room to him, open simultaneously in the morning. A temporary exhibition room, on the theme of “Beetlejuice, from concept to screen” (until 2025), previously occupied by the legendary film posters of the artist Drew Struzan.

We had the chance to discover it in preview, just before the museum opened. It is horribly… brilliant! And to reveal the treasures it contains, the museum teams, led by Julien Dumont, had to work hard (it wasn’t enough to say the word three times).

“It’s a mix of objects that we had in our reserves, like the famous snake from the sand planet in the film, exclusive interviews that we conducted, restorations and acquisitions,” explains the film buff director. Both ultra-enthusiasts and the general public should find interesting things there.”

A temporary exhibition until 2025

We thus discover, in immersion (musical and luminous), the original films and animation tests for the characters of Adam and Barbara (who transform into ghosts), original paintings, the cartoon version, prototypes of figurines, behind-the-scenes images, anecdotes, storyboards, a character with giant arms (until now exhibited at Planet Hollywood in Disneyland Paris)…

Visitors will be able to understand the secrets of the production (“It’s one of the last films with traditional special effects, made by hand”), pose on the sofa with a character and, soon, touch the materials used for the make-up. Other pieces are still to come.

The museum hopes, as usual, to welcome people who worked on the film during the exhibition. One thing is certain, is that Beetlejuice will be featured during the Halloween festivities!

Beetlejuice Expo, from concept to screen. Cinema and miniature museum, 60 rue Saint-Jean (Lyon 5e ). Open every day, Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., until 7 p.m. on weekends and during holidays. Website: www.museeminiatureetcinema.fr.
