Israel Hezbollah Conflict Live: The Israeli military early Tuesday began “limited” and “targeted” ground raids against the Iran-backed Hezbollah militant group in southern Lebanon. In a post on X, the Israel Defense Forces said, “IDF began limited, localized, and targeted ground raids based on precise intelligence against Hezbollah terrorist targets.” The Israeli forces said that these targets are located in villages close to the border, and “pose an immediate threat to Israeli communities in northern Israel.” This ground incursion marks an escalation in the conflict in West Asia, which began with Palestinian militant group Hamas’ attack in Israel on October 7, 2023.
Israel’s ground invasion follows the pager attacks, two weeks of airstrikes, and the killing of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah last week. The intensive air strikes have eliminated many Hezbollah commanders while killing about 1,000 civilians and forcing one million to flee their homes, according to the Lebanese government. In the past 24 hours, at least 95 people have been killed and 172 wounded in Israeli strikes on Lebanon’s southern regions, the eastern Bekaa Valley, and Beirut, Lebanon’s health ministry was quoted by Reuters early on Tuesday.
PM Modi dials Israeli PM Netanyahu: Amid rising tensions across West Asia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, emphasizing the importance of preventing further escalation in the region. “Terrorism has no place in our world. It is crucial to prevent regional escalation and ensure the safe release of all hostages,” Modi stated in a post on X. He reiterated India’s commitment to supporting efforts for a swift restoration of peace and stability.
