After the by bike, discover the Meridian by bike ! By 2025, a new cycle route will be built. With a length of 90 km, it will follow the route of an old railway line and will connect (Cher) to Sully-sur-Loire, located between Orléans and Gien ().

The aim of this development plan? To connect the territories while inviting people to discover the landscapes they cross.

As part of its implementation, the Departments are working in particular in concert with SNCF Network And SNCF Real Estate in order to dismantle the sleepers and rails, still present on some sections of the line. Preparatory work necessary for the installation of this cycle route.

In Loiret, the withdrawal of the latter took place at first half of 2023 on all of the 20 kilometers of the territory crossed by the future cycle route.

In 2024 and 2025the Department is continuing the project management studies and regulatory procedures before starting the work, estimated at 6.5 million euros.

The cycle route in the heart of Loiret

This new cycle route will extend from Cerdon to Sully-sur-Loire and will join the route of The Loire by bike via a footbridge already renovated between April 2019 and May 2020.

In fact, in order to make the crossing of the Loire safer, the Department has changed the old railway viaduct, located between Sully-sur-Loire and Saint-Père-sur-Loire, into a structure suitable for pedestrians and cyclists.

An operation which required an envelope of 2.2 million euros – 1.45 million euros subsidized by the Department.

This development has also been successful since January to September 2024, 125,000 passages – including 44,000 cyclists – were recorded there.

Finally, visitors can also visit the famous Château de Sully-sur-Loire and its listed park. Sensitive Natural Area or attend the Festival held there every year.

SNCF Réseau projects

Transforming old railway lines into greenways is one of the objectives of the sustainable development strategy of SNCF Réseau, manager of the national rail network. Currently, more than ten of these projects are underway, under study or recently completed in the Centre-Val de Loire region (Lucé in Eure-et-Loir, Moulin sur Yèvres – Saint Germain du Puy section in Cher).
