Emilia Clarke will multiply television projects in the coming months. The actress, expected in the cast of the series Criminal alongside Charlie Hunnam et Luke Evans for Prime Video, has just been announced as the series’ headliner Ponies.

Developed by Peacock, this new series created by Susanna Fogel (Chasing Life) et David Iserson (New Girl) will be set in Moscow in 1997 and will follow two “Ponies” – uninteresting people in intelligence jargon – who work as secretaries at the American embassy. But when their husbands are mysteriously killed in the USSR, they become CIA agents who work to uncover a vast Cold War conspiracy while solving their husbands’ murders.

Emilia Clarke will play Bea, a highly educated Russian-speaking woman who is the daughter of Soviet immigrants. Bea’s colleague, whose interpreter is not yet known, will be named Twila and is described as a young woman as caustic as she is intrepid from a small town.
