During these 11 days of competitions, 6 municipalities in the Piedmont region of Italy will host a total of 11 sporting disciplines. More precisely, alpine skiing, freestyle skiing and even snowboarding will take place in Bardonecchia. To attend cross-country skiing, ski orienteering (optional sport) or the biathlon, you will have to go to Pragelato.
The ice hockey events will take place in Pinerolo and Torre Pellice. For the other optional sport of ski mountaineering, athletes will have to travel to Sestriere. Finally, other competitions, such as figure skating, short track speed skating, curling and ice hockey, will be hosted by Turin.
This is a first for the FISU winter games, student participants will be able to participate in cross-country skiing and alpine skiing events. Another new feature of this 32nd edition: the BRAINstorm intellectual challenge. This is an international challenge which is organized through the collaboration of the 4 universities of Piedmont and the Camera di Commercia di Turin (Turin Chamber of Commerce).
More than 2,500 athletes from 54 nations will compete to win one of the 90 medals up for grabs. Even though it is the largest multi-winter sports event in the world (after the Olympic Games), the Winter Universiade goes well beyond sport. This is the ideal opportunity to show that sport breaks down barriers and allows cultures to mix.
For their return to the city where they were born, these 2025 winter games promise 11 days of fierce competitions and great sporting moments in perspective! See you this evening at the Inalpi Arena, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., for an opening ceremony that promises to be grandiose.
