Montreal Canadiens prospect David Reinbacher has reached an important milestone in the possibility of a return to play.

The young defender started skating again on Monday in Brossard.

Checked by Marshall Rifaï in the opening moments of a preseason game against the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Bell Centre, Reinbacher suffered a serious injury to his left knee which required surgery.

The organization had indicated that he would need five to six months of rehabilitation. According to this forecast, a return to play is possible on March 1 at the earliest.

Although Laine had also suffered a knee injury in the same match, he nevertheless managed to avoid an operation.

The CH tried to keep Reinbacher active during his absence, involving him, among other things, in preparation meetings (pre-scout in hockey jargon) before certain matches.

Reinbacher, 20, experienced his baptism in North American professional hockey last year, finishing the season with the Rocket in the American League. The Austrian did well, collecting five points, including two goals, in 11 games.

During his mid-season review, CH general manager Kent Hughes reiterated that he saw a bright future for Reinbacher in Montreal even if his injury necessarily delays his development.

The CH made Reinbacher the fifth overall pick in the 2023 draft. This selection was not unanimous among CH fans, who were calling for the Russian Matvei Michkov in large numbers.
