Red Bull announced its separation from Sergio Pérez on December 18, leaving the Mexican with little chance of returning for the 2025 season. While he clung as long as possible to a contract that covered both seasons to come, Pérez found himself without a seat at a time when they were already all taken in F1, and when places were also scarce in the other major championships.
Pérez must now define the shape that the rest of his career will take. A return to F1 cannot be ruled out, especially with the additional places offered by the arrival of Cadillac with its own team in 2026, nor a departure for another championship.
For the first time since his ouster, Pérez spoke publicly at the Feria de León in Mexico… and assured that he was in no rush to make a decision. “Things will be done in due time”declared the man who won six races in F1. “Over the next six months, I will make a decision on the continuation of my career.”
Without going into detail about the separation from Red Bull, Pérez said he “very happy” of the new life he is just beginning, without making a return to F1 a necessity: “I will come back to Formula 1 if that’s what makes me happiest.”
“I am very happy with what awaits me this year, I am very calm and very happy”he stressed, seeing the positive in his new rhythm of life: “I’m really enjoying my children, my family, my friends. I’m finally going to travel, because all these years I’ve traveled all over the world, but without knowing it.”
Sergio Pérez’s departure from Red Bull has benefited Liam Lawson, promoted from the Racing Bulls team. The latter chose Frenchman Isack Hadjar, who will make his F1 debut this year, to succeed Lawson.
