What will the future Formula 1 single-seaters which will begin the 2026 season, the year of the next large-scale technical transition, look like?
The FIA confirmed the essential changes what will the F1 single-seaters who will enter the track by 2026 World Championship season.
Lighter and different F1 cars in 2026
The last FIA General Assembly of 2024, which was held last week at Kigaliprovided more details regarding the profile adopted by the F1 single-seaters from the 2026 season.
The FIA presented an updated version of its concept-carthe result of joint work between its technical group and the teams. The revisited design suggests Smaller and more agile F1 carsbreaking with current machines whose overall weight is around a ton.
The weight reduction of cars will be made possible in particular thanks to theabandonment of the MGU-H (Motor Generator Unit-Heat), this complex and expensive system which recovers the excess heat released by the turbocharger linked to the engine to be transformed into electrical energy.
This simplification, combined with a redesign of dimensionswill allow a weight reduction of around 30 kilos for single-seaters with more refined lines. Hybridization remains in place with the MGU-Kpreserved for recover the kinetic energy generated by the braking system.
Beyond these mostly internal modificationsthe look of 2026 F1 will also be modified. L'front spoilerfirst of all, will adopt a more marked “U” design, accompanied by two-stage bafflesmore profiled, designed to improve air flow and generate more downforce.
The rear wing, then, will be free of abrupt breaksreplaced by a smooth structure maximizing aero efficiency. Finally, the pontoons are redesigned to integrate innovative aero elements.
How much are F1 teams paying for the 2025 season?
As required by the regulations specific to the discipline, established since 2013 via the Concorde Agreementseach of the ten teams (soon 11) must pay registration fees.
The amounts requested are calculated on the basis of points obtained in the Manufacturers' ranking by each training during the past year, in addition to a fixed amount of 500 000 dollars (more than €475,000).
If, previously, the world champion team (like McLaren in 2024) had to pay a price higher than $6,000 per pointthe situation will change for 2025. Both for the fixed entry cost but also that per point, consequence of inflation.
Result of the races: each team will have to pay for next season a starting amount of 680,203 dollars. For the outgoing champion, the price per point is set at 8 161 dollars (7,760 euros), compared to 6,799 dollars (6,465 euros) for the nine other teams.
If we focus on the results of a team like McLaren, whose management of the Lando Norris-Oscar Piastri duo will be more than interesting to follow in 2025, its first world title for Manufacturers since 1998 earned him a registration amount of… 6 115 429 dollars (5,814,764 euros), i.e. $3.471 million more than in 2023, consequence of his leap forward in terms of points (from 324 to 666).
