The son will drive for Williams from 2025, which allows him to add a precious house to his CV after having driven for Enstone (Renault F1), Woking (McLaren), Maranello (Ferrari) and soon Grove (Williams), without forgetting his debut in Faenza (Toro Rosso).
A family farewell to Ferrari for the Sainzes
Today, Scuderia Ferrari bid farewell to Carlos Sainz and his family in a very special way on the Fiorano circuit. Early this morning, Carlos and his father arrived at the track where all Ferrari cars have been tested for over 50 years, equipped with suits, helmets and gloves. In the garage, two 2022 F1-75s were waiting for them.
After a brief briefing, the time had come to start the first of the two cars and, at 9:45 a.m., three years and 324 days after his son's debut in red on January 27, 2021, it was Carlos Sainz Senior's turn to take behind the wheel of a Ferrari Formula 1. The rally and rally-raid champion had already driven a Grand Prix single-seater, but that was almost 20 years ago.
Despite a spin, 'Sainz Senior' quickly found his rhythm, stringing together several series of laps with regular times. Late in the morning, his son also went on track, finding the car with which he took his first F1 victory at the 2022 British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
Father and son then returned to the track for a few formation laps. During his four seasons with the team, Carlos Sainz participated in 88 races, won four times, took six pole positions, reached the podium 25 times and scored 900.5 points.
Then, the Sainz duo left the modern for the historic, taking the wheel of an incredible 735 LM, today maintained by the Ferrari Classiche department. This car had raced the Mille Miglia with Piero Taruffi and the 24 Hours of Le Mans driven by Harry Schell and Maurice Trintignant. The year it was built? 1955, a perfect coincidence with the young Spaniard's racing number.
