Alpine F1 regained sixth place in the constructors' standings in Qatar thanks to the ten points contributed by Pierre Gasly, while Esteban Ocon retired in the first round. Oliver Oakes praised his team's overall performance.
“It was a well-managed and well-executed race by the whole team, which allows us to take ten points with Pierre’s fifth place” Oakes said. “For his part, Esteban was the victim of an incident at the first corner.”
“The race was incredibly fast-paced with lots of action on both sides of the peloton. Pierre did what he had to do to stay in the points match at the start of the race, then he took advantage of the safety car to make his obligatory stop, like many others.”
“He did an even more remarkable job of staying fifth by holding Carlos [Sainz] remotely while preserving the tires and saving a little gasoline.”
Alpine will only have one objective in Abu Dhabi, where Jack Doohan could replace Ocon: “More importantly, we will go to the final event of the season with a small advantage in sixth place in the constructors' championship. The objective must be to maintain this position.”
