Formula 1 | Lawson happy with 'progress', Tsunoda 'out too late'

Liam Lawson reached SQ3 this Friday in Qatar, and he will start on the fifth row of the Sprint on Saturday. The RB driver delivers a stellar performance while his future is still being closely scrutinized. But his main objective is to help the Italian team regain points from their rivals.

“A big step forward. We weren't very fast before, and we had to do a lot of work to progress, but it was cool to get there. The canceled lap in SQ3 is a shame, it's only 'a position, but it makes a difference, but I'm happy with the progress. Lawson said.

“There is always more to extract from the car, we are going to work this evening, we have done long stints and we are going to study the data. This less position will cost us tomorrow because we have to gain a place to be in the points “Alpine, Haas and I are in a row and we are fighting for the championship, so it's important.”

“It was messy, I don't know why we got out so late. All I did was rush to my turn and I didn't have good track position. To be honest, I did what I could but I couldn't maximize my performance” Tsunoda said.

The Japanese is frustrated because he saw potential in his VCARB 01 during Free Practice: “Yes I think so, but it’s too late now, there’s already a qualifying session done, and we could have done better than that.”
