His coronation was no longer in doubt. Even if Lando Norris (McLaren) was mathematically in a position to be able to catch up, Max Verstappen (Red Bull) secured, two races from the end of the season, his fourth crown as Formula 1 world champion, in Las Vegas (United States), Sunday November 24. By taking fifth place in the Grand Prix, behind a podium made up of George Russell (Mercedes), Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) and Carlos Sainz (Ferrari), he ensured the essential by finishing just ahead of his last rival, Lando Norris, sixth. . He thus equals Alain Prost and Sebastian Vettel with his four world crowns.

Starting fifth in Las Vegas, one position ahead of Lando Norris, the Dutchman knew he just needed to keep the Briton behind him. And if his Red Bull even pointed his front wing in second position while his competitors returned to the pits, Max Verstappen was not as cavalier as usual when defending his place on the podium. He logically gave up against the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton, very fast on this circuit, then did not fight too much against the Ferraris, simply with his objective of finishing world champion in mind.

A profitable strategy for Max Verstappen who enters the history of Formula 1 a little further, only ahead of Juan Manuel Fangio (5 titles) then Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher (7 titles).
