An eleventh F1 team in 2026? The trend is becoming clearer!

In addition to the arrival of Audi, the 2026 Formula 1 season could be marked by another major upheaval. Indeed, according to information from Motorsport, General Motors (GM) seems to be getting closer to integrating into Formula 1 as the 11th team from 2026, under the name “Cadillac”. Although its initial association with Andretti was rejected by Formula One Management (FOM) for lack of commercial value, current discussions, now advanced, could allow the American giant to rejoin the sport.

With a Ferrari or Renault engine to start?

The recent development stems in part from the departure of Michael Andretti, whose aggressive strategy had displeased the FOM. Dan Towriss, new leader, took over, easing tensions. The latter was notably seen in the paddock of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, signaling a relaunch of negotiations. GM could rely on Andretti's facilities at Silverstone and benefit from the recruitments already made, notably that of former technician Pat Symonds. A model was even tested in a wind tunnel in Cologne.

Initially, Cadillac would use a customer engine, with Ferrari and Honda the preferred options after the initial deal with Renault ended. However, GM plans to develop its own hybrid engines for 2028. This potential entry comes as F1 is under investigation for anti-competitive behavior after rejecting Andretti Cadillac's application. Despite this controversy, GM continues its ambition to integrate F1, which would mark a strategic turning point for the American manufacturer and would enrich the grid of the premier discipline of motorsport.
