A few days ago, Sergio Pérez's father, Antonio Pérez, made homophobic remarks against Ralf Schumacher, former F1 driver.
“There is a driver who was in Formula 1 and is now a journalist, who first said that Checo had already left Red Bull and who, in the following weeks, came out of the closet. I don't know if he was in love with Checo”, Antonio Pérez then declared to ESPN.

“There are a lot of strange things and we don't know if it's a journalist, if it's a woman or a man, but his word is doubted. Not because of Checo Pérez, but because of his wife and what he said”, concluded the father of the Mexican pilot.
Ahead of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Sergio Pérez was asked to give his point of view on his father's statements and whether he would talk about it with him.
“Yes of course. First of all, I don't agree with any of his comments”, Pérez told Sky Sports F1. “I think he made a mistake in that regard. I don't share any of his opinions, but at the same time, I don't control what my father has to say. I can only control what I say.”

“I think it's important as a sport to always show that whatever happens on the track, it always stays on the track. This is how I see things and we should always be an example to the rest of the world”, concluded the Red Bull driver.
For his part, Ralf Schumacher, who had criticized the Mexican driver's F1 performances, preferred to respond on his Instagram account.
“I would also support my son 100% and try to help him. This is what you do as a father. Regarding the style, I would be different, but we know Mr. Pérez with all his emotions. That's why I'm not angry with him. However, I think the results on the track would be the best argument.”
