Guenther Steiner insists he should have left Haas F1 much sooner than he ultimately did.
The former team principal was forced out at the end of last year by owner Gene Haas, but believes things were more or less written for many months.
“I have no hard feelings against the team.”
“You understand it, once you're gone. When you're in it, you have tunnel vision – 'I have to do this or that.'
“You never ask yourself, ‘Why the hell am I doing this?’ It doesn’t make sense.”
“When you look back… I should have left in the middle of 2022. It started to get difficult after that.”
“I didn't see how we could improve. We would go to the races and be so happy to score just one point. But how long can you do that? We can do it for a long time, but I can't.”
“I need to have a bigger goal than just scoring a point. When you build an F1 team, you want to build it, then score points, then get on the podium. You need a goal. “
“When Covid hit, everything stopped. Every day was the same, we were just doing our job.”
