Mick Schumacher appears to admit his dream of returning to Formula 1 is over.
A social media post signed by the former Haas F1 driver was interpreted by most as relating specifically to his failure to secure a return to the grid for 2025 with Audi-owned Sauber.
But it is also said that he received the information that he would lose his links with Mercedes F1, with the return of Valtteri Bottas as reserve and advisor to Toto Wolff.
“Life doesn’t always go as planned, and setbacks can be difficult to face,” wrote Michael Schumacher's 25-year-old son.
“But every challenge is a chance to learn, grow and come back even stronger. It's just a chapter, not the whole story.”
“The journey continues and I am determined to overcome it.”
Schumacher does not mention any specific plans for his future. He should remain an Endurance driver for Alpine in the WEC. “But the fact is that he will no longer have a role in Formula 1” according to Ralf Schumacher, his uncle, who confirms before time the rumors of separation between his nephew and Mercedes.
2025 is the last season in which Schumacher's experience with current-generation ground-effect cars will still be relevant, with all-new regulations arriving for 2026.
The ten teams will send a new generation of cars to the start in 2026. A generation that Mick does not know and his advantage in terms of experience acquired during his time at Haas and Mercedes will eventually evaporate…
