The number of laps led by Esteban Ocon on Sunday in São Paulo gave rise to a pretty incredible statistic.
Incredible, that was already the word of the day on Sunday, with this crazy comeback by Max Verstappen, from 17th to winner, but of course also with the improbable double podium of the French drivers at the wheel of their Alpine in difficulty throughout the season.
While Esteban Ocon ultimately finished second, the Frenchman led the race for a good number of laps before the red flag. Indeed, unlike the driver in front of him, the Frenchman remained on the track on his intermediate tires, even when the deluge hit Interlagos.
A crazy statistic then emerges from the laps spent in the lead by the Norman driver. Indeed, with 14 laps in the lead in Brazil, Esteban Ocon has led more laps in Grand Prix this season at the wheel of his Alpine than Sergio Pérez at the wheel of his Red Bull! The Mexican has only one short lap at the head of a Grand Prix this whole year.
Ocon is also the only driver outside the top four 2024 teams to have led a Grand Prix this year.
