Oliver Bearman finished 12th in the Sao Paulo Grand Prix after a race marked by several off-track events. Kevin Magnussen's replacement at Haas F1 had a very difficult race in Brazil, but he was able to experience the rain and the Interlagos track.
“A difficult race, too many mistakes on my side and that compromised my race. We finished 12th and close to the points despite all my mistakes, but on the other hand I lost too much time. It was a day difficult but I learned a lot” Bearman said.
However, he is pleased with what he was able to learn: “I learned the track, which I didn't think I would do until next year. And racing in these conditions is very difficult so every lap is valid, and I did a lot of them.”
Nico Hülkenberg was the first driver since Giancarlo Fisichella and Felipe Massa at the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix to be disqualified during a race. Stuck on the asphalt after a spin, he was helped by the marshals to get going again, which is strictly prohibited.
“Unfortunately I needed help from the marshals, I was stuck after a low-speed spin.”
“They came out, pushed me and they were very happy with themselves. They were encouraging me, pushing me and saying to me: Go, go, go, the race is not over! Obviously, at At that point you don't really think about it, you don't care about it either to be honest. You just have to move on and deal with the consequences later, obviously.”
“It's my fault, but it's unfortunate to be stuck like that, normally we manage to continue afterwards. It was a small mistake which costs a lot after a difficult weekend” concludes the German.
“Too bad because I think it was going well in intermediates, actually. I was on a train with Gasly and Alonso for a long time, before we went to the pits. Everything was fine. It wasn't great, but it wasn't great either and I don't know, right after the pit stop, everything went downhill quickly…”
