Formula 1 | Sixth and eighth, the Haas drivers shone in Qualif Sprint

Haas achieved a very good performance for the first competitive session of the United States Grand Prix, at home for Gene Haas’s team. Nico Hülkenberg will be sixth at the start of the Sprint this Saturday, and he admits that he did not expect such a result.

“I have to realize” said the German. “Qualifying was very tricky, with ups and downs. In SQ1 I didn’t feel very good in the car, and I think we were lucky to get through, I didn’t expect that. “

“We were lucky, the car improved in SQ2 and it improved further in SQ3 with the soft tyres. We still have to look at the developments, because the car is currently difficult to drive in the wind and everything else, but now we have a lot more data to study.”

Eighth, Kevin Magnussen is also satisfied, but less surprised than his teammate: “I think it went well all day, so I’m not too surprised that we’re here. I’m really happy that we managed to get both cars into SQ3.”

“Nico managed to do it when he needed to on the last lap. Sixth and eighth for tomorrow’s Sprint, it’s a good start to the weekend. Nico is riding with the developments, so it’s very nice to see him see up because we want to see this car go faster.”

“I will get the update after the Sprint. It’s a good thing to get data and to separate the cars, it’s definitely the right decision. I did my best today so that we can fight for points tomorrow.”
