Formula 1 | Red Bull: Our system is perfectly legal and was known to everyone

Dr Helmut Marko has theorized that teams are scrutinizing Red Bull’s system for “divert attention from other problems”.

Red Bull has admitted to having a device capable of changing the ride height of the RB20 between qualifying and the race. But this device cannot be activated during parc ferme and Red Bull demonstrated it in practice at the FIA between the Freestyles and the upcoming sprint qualifications in Austin.

McLaren CEO Zak Brown has asked the FIA to investigate the device in depth (read here).

However, according to Marko, the governing body was aware of the device before the media leaks that took place just before this weekend at the Circuit of the Americas. And he downplayed the trick.

“The system is perfectly legal and was known to all the teams,” Marko said.

“We had already informed the FIA about this, that says it all.”

“We can’t change the ride height level between qualifying and the race. That’s the main thing, there’s nothing illegal.”

“The FIA already knew it. There was no sanction, nothing has changed compared to before. I don’t understand all this chatter about it. Maybe someone wants to divert attention other problems.”
