With Haas, Toyota wants to bring F1 back to Japanese time

Finally, Toyota returns to Formula 1 with Haas. “Out the window”, like its great rival Honda. But where the firm at H is in the role of engine manufacturer by supplying V6s badged RBPT, its counterpart at T becomes the new technical partner of the Ayao Komatsu team. This means that Toyota’s base in Cologne will design and manufacture parts for Haas, while offering its technical know-how. In return, the American team will allow the troops of its new partner to access the world of F1 and to train there.

Toyota will in any case not become the new title sponsor of Haas, like what Alfa Romeo once did with Sauber. And there is no question of an arrival as an engine manufacturer or a takeover of the Banbury team. For now, at least. “Don’t write that Toyota is back!”Tuesday to Akio Toyoda, the grand patron.

But what is certain is that Toyota wants to create a channel to allow its most brilliant talents to be in Formula 1, and this also applies to the drivers in its junior programs. Currently, Ritomo Miyata is in F2, and we can bet that in Aichi, we will push to see one of his drivers become a starter for Haas in the medium term.

“I want Japanese children to one day be able to race in the fastest cars in the world,” Akio Toyoda solemnly indicates. “And I want to be the father of these children, the one who allowed them to achieve their dreams.”

And the one who will have thus put Formula 1 back on Japanese time.
