Aston Martin risks becoming the “PSG of F1”

Nico Rosberg, Formula 1 World Champion in 2016, has warned Aston Martin. According to him, the English team risks becoming the “PSG of F1”.

In addition to his driving talents, we must recognize that Nico Rosberg, thanks to his reactions, knows how to create a buzz in the media. During an interview with Sky Sports F1, the former Mercedes driver wanted to warn Aston Martin about its future, while damaging the image of the -Saint-Germain football club in the process.

After a highly publicized and, it must be admitted, rather promising recruitment campaign, Aston Marin can no longer hide and is positioning itself as a future top team. It must be said that its owner, Lawrence Stroll, did not skimp on means. New offices, new wind tunnel and above all new staff.

The most recent to sign and the most famous is none other than Adrian Newey, genius engineer and father of many F1 world champion single-seaters. The Briton once imagined at Ferrari will join an existing structure which includes big names like Dan Fallows (technical director) as well as Tom McCullough (head of engineering).

The Aston Martin team did not take half measures, and went to poach the best from Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull… just that! An offensive strategy which, for Nico Rosberg, strongly resembles that of PSG in the world of football.

Indeed, since the arrival of QSI (Qatar Sport Investments) in 2011, the capital’s football club has entered another dimension, winning numerous national titles and now playing in the Champions League every year. During the 2021 season, PSG even had Lionel Messi, Kyllian Mbappé and Neymar, three of the best players in the world, in its ranks, and this is where Nico Rosberg draws the parallel between the two entities.

Look at PSG, in football”, Rosberg told Sky Sports F1. “They had Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappé, all three at the same time. Three of the best football players of all time, and everyone else was pretty good too; but they have never won the Champions League.

Aston Martin must shine

And since then, the three nuggets of PSG have even left for other projects. According to Rosberg, it’s not about having the best people in your ranks, but about getting them to work together.

Because, of course, it’s great to bring in the greatest geniuses, the best managers. However, they still need to integrate and work together optimally, because the quality of a team depends on the collaboration of all its members.

“Adrian Newey alone will not be able to make this car a world champion car. He needs the rest of the team. Of course he can give them good direction, he can give them really good advice, but he always needs the team to outdo themselves with him. That remains to be seen. It will definitely be a challenge for them to integrate and make this team a family that is all pulling in the same direction.”
